Once again the Limassol Lizards gave some fantastic performances at Tsirio stadium in the U18s National Finals on 19th and 20th July 2018, despite the searing heat and high humidity, with some new personal bests and podium positions.
Five of our young athletes competed, most on both days of the competition. Despite their youth, we were a major contributor of points for GSO; overall Limassol GSO came first above all the other Cypriot clubs in U18 Girls category.
Irini Christou did fantastically well after a difficult season of losing two big races and missing out on podium positions but the misfortune finally broke enabling her to come 3rd in the Steeple Chase and 5th in the 3k race.
Having taken an early lead, Alicia Finnis had a fantastic 3K race coming a very convincing 1st and a very commendable 3rd place in the 1500m. She achieved personal bests in both races.
After a very impressive season of racing, Anna Makkoutide came 3rd in the 800m and 5th in the 400m.
Kyriakos Vasiliou came 7th in the 3k with a new personal best and Zara Meaby got a PB and came 7th in the 3k race. Congratulations to all our great athletes for these achievements!
Some of our athletes will also be competing for Cyprus against Greece on Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th in Nicosia, so everyone is invited to come along and support.
This week, the team has their final training on the beach on Wednesday, followed by a fun day out at Fasouri Waterpark on Friday and on Monday 30th July will be the closing season’s final event, which will be an archery lesson and tournament!
