On Sunday 29th April 2018, the Limassol Lizards appeared at several events all over Cyprus on what was a busy day for the racing community.
In the morning, it was the race in Kelokedara Village in Paphos which was in memory of the athlete Marianna Zachariadi who sadly passed away after a battle with cancer. Some of our team ran in the 500m kids race with very good results.
Marianna Andreou came 1st in the Girls Under 9 and in the older age category, in 1st place Girls was Sai Kapur and Sukhman Singh was in 3rd Place Boys.
At the same time in Limassol, the Run4All annual event for charity was taking place organised by the Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK). Some of our team were running the Corporate 4x4k relay race and some of our younger athletes participated in the U12 500m Kids Race.
We had 2 of our U12 girls on the podium with 1st Place going to Nayia Papageorgiou and 3rd Place to Nefeli Simpson.
In the afternoon it was the National Finals for the U20s and some of our athletes participated. Despite their young age, they pushed and delivered a fantastic performance.
Anna Makkoutide, who also ran the day before in the 1500m and came first, also came 2nd in the U20s 800m finals and is now in Morocco, where she will compete in the Gymnasiade ISF School Summer Games in Marakesh representing Cyprus. Our very talented athlete Alicia Finnis also ran in the U20s 5km and despite being the youngest competitor at only 13 years old, ran a superb race and came in first place – an added bonus to her run was breaking the U16 record with an astonishing time of only 19:23:05!
A fantastic weekend for the Lizards and we are looking forward to the upcoming Nationals for our younger athletes this Saturday!
